Step into our Factory

·We are in the process of updating the Dashel website, so while that’s underway, I thought I’d give you an update on Dashel and how we manufacture in 2026.
We used to manufacture only by the sea. The ReCycle helmet was made in Plymouth, Devon and the carbon fibre helmets were/are made in Cornwall. Dashel is Cornish for thistle – a suitably colourful, protective flower.
In December 2025 we moved to Cameron-Price in Birmingham and it’s been a brilliant fit. A cheerful, well-organised workforce combined with high-tech machinery in a well organised space. We can now manufacture the ReCycle in the volumes we require, at the standards that cycle helmets demand. We know we’re not the cheapest, but the quality control here is excellent. With the rise of AI, the manual work factories provide will become increasingly important to the UK economy.

As part of updating the website, we are now removing references to manufacturing with 100% green and renewable energy. If you’ve been reading the papers, you’ll know Britain has some of the highest industrial energy costs in the world, and our factories are doing what they can to survive.
My children have spent school holidays visiting factories since they were small. I think manufacturing needs better PR as a career option for in the UK. In a well-run factory there’s real camaraderie and a shared pride in doing a job properly. In 2025 during 3 factory moves, I joined the production-line to help keep Dashel afloat. I found the processes mindful and satisfying. There’s now nothing I do not know about every aspect of my design.

We hope you enjoy these photos of some of our new workforce. It’s not all men working there, but the women at the factory didn’t want their photos taken! I can’t blame them as I’m a camera dodger too ;).
Best,
Catherine
